Euclid to co-host two-day Bike Education Workshop

The city of Euclid, in collaboration with the League of American Bicyclists, will be hosting the “Bicycle Friendly America Community Workshop” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 and 7 at Henn Mansion located inside Sims Park at 23131 Lake Shore Blvd.

The public will be able to come and learn more about what bike-friendly cities look like with a focus on what that could mean for Euclid residents and those that travel throughout the city. The educational workshops will showcase what it might look like if Euclid joined the 7,300 communities that are considered a Bicycle Friendly Community by The League of American Bicyclists.

The decision to host the event comes as Euclid is enacting its Active Transportation Plan, which seeks to improve the city’s infrastructure to make it more friendly for cyclists and walkers.

The League of American Bicyclists was founded in 1880 as a bicycle advocacy group whose goals, according to its website, is to educate the public on safe biking, and make more American communities bike friendly.

Its method of measuring a community’s reception to cyclists is the attributes fall under their “5 E’s for a Bicycle Friendly America: Equity, Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Evaluation and Planning.” Those that hit these specific bike safety culture and infrastructure attributes are bestowed the Bicycle Friendly Community Award.

It’s these “5 E’s” that Euclid Planning and Development officials along with the Cuyahoga Commission will demonstrate. Attendees, according to Euclid’s website, will learn about bicycle safety and infrastructure best practices, conduct a ride audit, and help produce a Bicycle Action Plan for the community of Euclid.

Anyone attending the workshop will need to register at the city’s website.
