Euclid Planning Commission will be seeking public comment April 26 on its second phase of the Active Transportation Plan.

The plan seeks to address the needs of the 60% of households in Euclid whose members currently either walk or bike to work, according to Euclid Planning and Development Director Patrick Grogan-Myers.

“Over 60% of households in the city have no vehicle available or only one vehicle available for daily trips, such as going to work,” he said at the April 17 City Council meeting. “So making sure we have a transportation network that serves not just those that have vehicles, but households that don’t have, or choose not to use vehicles it is important for an equable quality of life in the city.”

The initial phase of the Active Transportation Plan consisted of collecting data on current bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along with demographic data to use as a baseline during the initial planning phases.

The second phase which the meeting will be kicking off, focuses on the “Vision” phase which consists of input from residents, businesses, and community groups.

Following that  input and recommendations, the city plans to outline actionable strategies to improve the walkability of the city, connecting Euclid Creek Reservation, Sims Park and Lakefront Trail to Hero Park, including the downtown and many business districts in that area.

The initial meeting for the second phase will consist of a presentation from the city planning committee, showcasing how the planning process will work, and how residents can be engaged in planning process itself. It will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 26 in City Hall, 585 E. 222nd St.
