The Mayfield Heights Aquatic and Community Center that is currently under construction at 6306 Marsol Road is on schedule to open its outdoor swim area by June 30.

The 33,000-square-foot Aquatic Center will feature an outdoor swimming area and outdoor play areas. The pool areas will feature one 7,600-square-foot zero-depth entry pool with another 4,300-square-foot pool that goes to 13 feet in depth next to it.

It’s these outside pool areas that will be first to open, with the nearby 8,408-square-foot playground beginning construction in July.

Council member Michael J. Ballistrea, part of the city Planning Commission, said while the setbacks are expected, he hopes that contractor AM Higley and Co, will stay on track.

“We’ve had good weather during the winter and we’ve had good weather so far this spring, Ballistrea said. “It’s my understanding that the contractor will be working seven days (a week) to try and meet that deadline.”

The towers for the six 34-foot waterslides that are part of the multi-level outdoor activity center are critical as they pump the water, allowing it to be filtered and cleaned for the rest of the pool. The rest of the pool features will be high and low diving boards, along with aquatic basketball hoops and water toys along the edges, with prominent slides

“The towers for the slides were delivered today, that was the last component that had to be installed,” said Ballistrea

While the install time for the slide towers is usually six weeks, Ballistrea hopes that with good weather and the contractor working overtime, the pool area will be open by June.

“We’re looking at six weeks, what will put us past that deadline,” he said.” That’s why they are going to increase the work time, weather dependent, to hit the deadline. That’s what it takes to install that, get the state approvals, get the county approvals. Those folks have to come in and approve.”

A groundbreaking date for the rest of the center, according to Ballistrea, is yet to be determined.
