Lake County Sheriff’s deputies recently helped save the life of a man in Painesville Township.

According to a  Sheriff’s Office news release, on May 22 at 12:58 p.m., the department was dispatched along with the Painesville Fire Department to a report of an unresponsive elderly male outside his residence at Cambridge Condominiums in Painesville Township.

Neighbors had called 911 when they found a man collapsed after he called out saying he was having a heart attack.

According to the release, Deputies Dustin Majewski and Bucyrus Palo were on patrol in the area and were the first to arrive on scene. Both deputies, after finding the man had no pulse, immediately administered CPR working in tandem and were able to restore his breathing.

Upon arrival, the Painesville Township Fire Department took over life-saving efforts and transported the man to UH Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township.

According to the release, the shift lieutenant called to check on the man’s status and the nurse stated that he was in critical condition and that the attending physician wanted to speak to him. The doctor wanted the shift supervisor to be aware that without the life-saving efforts of Majewski and Palo, the man would not have survived.

Deputy sheriffs are trained on a regular basis to administer CPR and Majewski is a CPR instructor. The video from the body cam footage of the incident revealed the calm demeanor of the deputies at the scene during such a stressful situation and how quickly they reacted was a big factor in the man having a chance to survive, according to the release.
