Cole Clayton scored 59 seconds into overtime to lift the Monsters past host Rochester, 3-2, on March 29.

The Monsters avenged a 5-2 loss on March 26 at Rochester and improved to 29-27-5-2.

Josh Dunne got Cleveland on the board 28 seconds into the game with his 20th goal of the season, second-best on the team behind Trey Fix-Wolansky’s 26. The Americans tied the game on a goal with 5:13 remaining in the first period.

Blue Jackets 2020 draft pick Mikael Pyyhtia put the Monsters ahead, 2-1, with his first AHL goal 1 minute, 31 seconds into the third. Rochester answered with a power-play with 7 minutes, 45 seconds remaining. The game remained tied through three periods, setting up Clayton’s heroics.

Cleveland was 0-for-4 on power plays. Jet Greavs made 31 saves.

The Monsters return to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for two games against Hershey in under 24 hours, beginning at 6 p.m., April 1.
