Fix-Wolansky, a right-winger in his fourth season in Cleveland, assisted on Clayton’s goal to give him 71 points for the season. He has 29 goals and 42 assists.

Jake Christiansen scored twice in the first 11 minutes, including a power-play goal, to give Cleveland a 2-0 lead. Rochester answered with three straight goals to take a 3-2 advantage. Then Roman Ahcan scored with 52 seconds remaining in the second period to tie the game and lead to Clayton’s heroics.

Pavel Cajan made 24 saves in goal for Cleveland.

The Monsters (33-31-5-2) wrap up the season against Rochester at 3 p.m., April 16 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Cole Sillinger’s goal in the second round of the shootout was the only time the puck found the back of the net for either team.

Greaves made 46 saves with the Blue Jackets in a 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs on April 4. He then played 65 minutes for the Monsters on April 5.

Cleveland outshot the Senators, 42-26, but was 0-for-5 on power plays.

The Monsters improved to 30-29-5-2. They remain in Canada for an April 7 matchup at Laval.

The Monsters avenged a 5-2 loss on March 26 at Rochester and improved to 29-27-5-2.

Josh Dunne got Cleveland on the board 28 seconds into the game with his 20th goal of the season, second-best on the team behind Trey Fix-Wolansky’s 26. The Americans tied the game on a goal with 5:13 remaining in the first period.

Blue Jackets 2020 draft pick Mikael Pyyhtia put the Monsters ahead, 2-1, with his first AHL goal 1 minute, 31 seconds into the third. Rochester answered with a power-play with 7 minutes, 45 seconds remaining. The game remained tied through three periods, setting up Clayton’s heroics.

Cleveland was 0-for-4 on power plays. Jet Greavs made 31 saves.

The Monsters return to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for two games against Hershey in under 24 hours, beginning at 6 p.m., April 1.

Cleveland’s three-game was snapped, and the Monsters fell to 28-27-5-2.

Trailing, 3-0, in the second period, Joon Luoto got the Monsters on the scoreboard with his 14th goal of the season.

Corson Ceulemans made it a 3-2 game with his first professional goal, 4 minutes, 35 seconds into the third period. Ceulemans is the Blue Jackets’ 2021 first-round pick, and he recently finished his college career at Wisconsin. His goal was assisted by brothers Cole and Owen Sillinger.

Rochester went back ahead by two goals with 8:05 left in the third, and later added an empty-net goal for the final margin.

Daniil Tarasov played the first 25 minutes in goal for Cleveland and saved 16 of 18 shots faced. Jet Greaves, who shut out Toronto on March 25, played the rest of the way and saved nine of 11 shots.

The Monsters’ next game is also at Rochester, on March 29.

Cleveland is off until March 24, when it plays the first game of a home-and-home with Toronto on March 24 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Cleveland has won two in a row, both over the Griffins, to improve to 25-25-4-2.

Chinakhov scored his third goal of the season on a power play with 3:45 remaining in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. After Grand Rapids took a 2-1, lead Jake Christiansen found the back of the net for the Monsters to tie the game.

Jet Greaves turned away 36 of the 38 shots he faced, plus both Griffins’ attempts in the shootout.

The Monster have the last of three in a row against Grand Rapids on March 16 at home.

Trey Fix-Wolansky, Jake Christiansen, Josh Dunne, Yegor Chinakhov and Owen Sillinger each scored one goal for the Monsters. Christiansen’s and Chinakhov’s tallies were on power-plays. Chinakhov was playing for first time since mid-December.

The Monsters return to Cleveland to face Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 1 p.m., March 4 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

It was the third defeat in a row for Cleveland (22-23-4-2).

The Monsters led, 2-1, after the first period thanks to power-play goals by Josh Dunne and Trey Fix-Wolansky. It was Dunne’s 16th goal of the season, and Wolansky’s 22. Wolansky has 55 points this season, 23 more than any other player on the team.

The Griffins then scored five unanswered goals to put it away despite being outshot, 34-31, for the game.

Pavel Cajan started in goal for Cleveland and saved 14 of 18 shots. Jet Greaves relieved Cajan in the second period and stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced.

Cleveland travels to Syracuse on March 1.
